How We Renovated an 1890s Duplex into Apartments

Grace on 29th

Location: Newport News, Virginia // Size: 7,765 SF // Completion Date: September 2024

In transforming a historic 1890s Womens Seminary (originally a duplex) into a modern apartment building, we maximized livability within the existing footprint through unique unit layouts. Each apartment was designed to utilize every square foot efficiently, creating functional, comfortable living spaces without altering the building's original structure.

The renovation restored the building’s historic façade, preserving its classic brickwork and intricate detailing. The grand entrance, a key architectural feature, was carefully reconstructed to maintain its charm and re-instate historic building access, blending old-world elegance with modern standards.
